Welcome to the fifth edition of NFTDrops. We cover drops across the digital art and collectibles world and give readers the information necessary to stay up to date with the space.
This week we're covering last week's drop from BossLogic and upcoming drops from Jose Delbo and Chet Porter. We have been having issues posting the NFT News section on Substack. Therefore, all news will be posted on the Twitter thread announcing the weekly newsletter until further notice.
We are also excited to announce that we will be releasing v1 of the NFTDrops calendar in a few weeks. Users will be able to personalize a calendar to keep an eye on drops from their favorite platforms and artists. Stay tuned!
Recap of the Past Week
Genesis by BossLogic
The Collection
BossLogic's first drop on Nifty Gateway netted an astounding $686,679 in total sales. The drop included three open editions, two unique 1/1 auction pieces, and 504 packs containing eight different NFTs (equal chance of being pulled).
Our Thoughts
BossLogic’s genesis drop on NiftyGateway proved to be a wild success. While the auctions did not reach exorbitant prices as we have seen with highly-anticipated drops in the past, what stood out was the incredible demand for the Forever Mamba Open Edition. This alone netted over $350K in sales for Boss Logic, showing the power of Kobe Bryant’s legacy. Drops featuring iconic moments and individuals in our societies’ culture will always draw interest from the community.
The success of BossLogic’s latest drop partially supports our belief that large social media followings are a good indicator of a drop’s success. As we see more creators enter the space, we will continue to use this metric to predict success.
Upcoming Drops
Heroes Playing Poker by Jose Delbo
Friday, February 5 @ 7PM EST
Platform: Nifty Gateway
The Collection
Jose Delbo's second drop on Nifty Gateway will feature five different versions of the same piece - Heroes Playing Poker. According to Delbo, Heroes Playing Poker plays on Cassius Marcellus Coolidge's A Friend In Need. Delbo will experiment with how different artists' styles and techniques can change the way we perceive art. Delbo is teaming up with three artists on this drop, including Sarah Perryman, Blair Shedd, and Ross Campbell.
The drop will include one silent auction, three open editions, and one 1/1 auction. Each of the open editions will be available for five minutes. Additionally, Delbo will randomly choose a collector to receive a signed print of each open edition. The winner of the auction will receive a signed print as well. Those interested in the drop can find more details in the table below or on Delbos's website.
Our Thoughts
Jose Delbo is an Argentine comic artist who has worked with DC and Marvel Comics in the past. Delbo previously dropped one collection on Nifty Gateway in November titled Heroes of Cinema, which included three 10/10 open editions and four auction editions. At the time of writing, the three open editions have average resale price increases on the secondary market for +99%, +100%, and +127%. Given Delbo’s expansive resume and his prior success on Nifty Gateway, we expect this collection to be the drop of the week.
Chet Porter
Saturday, February 6 @ 7PM EST
Platform: Nifty Gateway
The Collection
EDM Producer and DJ Chet Porter is releasing his first collection on Nifty Gateway this week. While details of the drop have not been released yet, we will post updates on Twitter as we learn more.
Our Thoughts
Chet Porter is the latest music producer to feature a drop on Nifty Gateway. He joins the ranks of 3LAU, Lil Yachty, and RAC, to name a few. Based on historical data, drops from producers tend to perform well because of their following. Additionally, we have started to see producers innovate through song tokenization, album cover NFTs, and more.
