#034: World of Women, Digital Comics, and NFT Gaming
Welcome to the 34th edition of the NFT Drops Newsletter! In this edition we recap NFT news from the past two weeks as usual, before diving into World of Women and their recent drop of WoW Galaxy Collection.
Here we go!💧
NFT Drops Recap
Art Blocks featured several artist drops via their Factory and Curated outlets during the past two weeks. On March 22nd, Eliya Stein released 1,024 NFTs inspired by the effect of moving water and Sterling Crispin released 168 unique artworks that resembled plants throughout their life cycle. Both of these nature-inspired editions are now available on OpenSea.
Undead Blocks is an NFT video game that claims to be the world’s first multiplayer “kill-to-earn” zombie survival game built on Ethereum. They dropped and quickly sold out an assortment of upgradable weapons that have a current floor price of .13 ETH on OpenSea. To their credit, this project seems to be integrating NFTs into their game in a practical, valuable manner that encourages many in the crypto gaming world.
Wandernauts are the third group of NFTs to be released by the Wanderers team that dropped their OG collection in August 2021. Since then, they released Planet Pass: a conglomerate of intergalactic outposts (see below), and now integrate pfps into the Wanderverse. After the drop, the floor of the original Wanderers sunk to levels it hadn’t seen since its early days. It now sits at .123 ETH.
Everai, the “Heroes of the Metaverse”, take the form of 7,777 Anime NFTs that minted at .15 ETH last week. The creators hope to build an adaptable brand that fits into the crypto ecosystem, with several future hero drops planned. The current floor is .4 ETH, and their website is accessible here.
The Peek-A-Boo game features ghosts and ghost busters who hunt each other on-chain. The team released free NFTs of characters to use in the game to all white listed members, with a public access mint coming soon. In the game, players can earn rewards for success and use crypto to power up their NFTs
On March 31st, the popular Mutant Shiba Club went live with their mint of 10,000 NFTs. All of the 1/1s sold out, with secondary prices jumping up close to .4 ETH before a dip to just above .2 ETH (currently .225). An interesting feature of this project is their partnership with NFTNerds, a leading data analytics and trading tool, that gives heavy discounts to all Mutant Shiba owners.
30,000 digital Spider-Man comics just became available via VeVe Digital, an established NFT collectibles outlet. The starting price is $6.99, and the NFTs are fully available on the VeVe app. There are certain editions with ultra-rare elements, like covers and title pages, that make the comics especially exciting.
World of Women
The World of Women pioneer an effort to onboard diverse groups into web3, and they are a major blue chip in our overwhelmingly male-dominated NFT ecosystem. Originally launching in late July 2021, they quickly caught the attention of many as the first collection that, quite simply, featured avatars of entirely women!
We at NFT Drops have tracked these NFTs particularly closely in their evolution - from a quick sell out at .08 ETH to an astronomical floor price of 10+ ETH. One of us even bought a few at mint and, of course, sold them all way too early (sound familiar?). Major milestones for WoW include large-scale celebrity endorsements (Logan Paul, artchick.eth), implementing a crypto fund to support emerging artists, and leading several discussions surrounding the lack of representation of women and minority groups in NFTs.
Recently, WoW grabbed headlines with their drop of a Galaxy Collection featuring OG WoW collectibles that had supposedly been run through a magical portal. There are 22,222 Galaxy NFTs - an increase of more than double from the original collection of 10,000. In the last seven days, only Azuki (up to a 30 ETH floor🤯), BEANZ, and KIWAMI pace the revamped Women in sales volume on OpenSea.
What makes these NFTs so popular? Well, there are a few things. For one, people love the original World of Women. They are incredibly well-positioned for the future of NFTs, and sit up high with Bored Ape Yacht Club, CryptoPunks, Cool Cats, and a select few others at the top of all NFT collections. The Galaxy edition WoWs facilitate exposure to the beloved original collection thanks to the increased size of 22,222 and the much lower floor price (1.3 ETH).
Comparisons to BAYC’s Mutant Ape Yacht Club and Cool Cats’ Cool Pets also drive demand for WoW Galaxy. People are often drawn to two things in NFTs: established success and valuable creativity, AKA novelty. Galaxy falls on the established success side of things, but as MAYC have shown, betting on brands that know how to succeed is never a bad idea.
From here, the creators of World of Women are leaving plans somewhat open-ended. They characterize the Galaxy collection as “a continuation of their mission to advance and celebrate representation, inclusivity and equal opportunities for all.” They will expand their support of upandcoming and underrepresented artists, donate to worthwhile causes, and create new ways for individuals to engage with the WoW brand.
That’s It!
Thank you all for reading, see you in two weeks💧
